Terry Lynn Wheatley

Terry Lynn Wheatley, 70, of Athens, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022. Visitation will be Sunday, June 12th, 2022, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mr. Wheatley will be Sunday, June 12th, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Manna House (https://mymannahouse.com/). Terry was born in Caruthersville, Missouri on December 14, 1951. After graduating from South Pemiscot High School in Steele, he studied music education at School of the Ozarks. At school, Terry met his wife Becky. They were married on June 1, 1975 and remained steadfastly devoted to one another, lighting up each other’s lives. After graduating, Terry taught music for several years. He started a southern gospel quartet and recorded an album entitled I’ve Already Won the War in Springfield, Missouri. Terry and Becky moved with their sons Chris and Matt to the St. Louis area, and Terry began a long and successful career in civil service. Terry’s career took him to Athens, where he continued his work in logistics for 32 years until his retirement in 2016. In Alabama, he continued his service to the community as a Royal Ranger Commander, a volunteer at Manna House, and a deacon and choir member at the Rock Family Worship Center. Terry and Becky went on the 2018 Rock Holy Land tour, where they were baptized together in the Jordan River and had holy communion near the Empty Tomb. Terry’s radiant joy touched everyone who knew him. He was a devoted husband and father, the rock of his family, always making sure they knew how much he loved them and how proud he was of them. Terry delighted in and cared deeply about all of his family and friends, supporting them through difficult times and through triumphs. He was always extremely generous, giving of himself more than he received. He loved to be in nature, whether fishing, hunting, or enjoying the serenity of a stream. He expressed his spirit and his love of God through music. He accepted Jesus as a teenager and served Him faithfully using his gifted voice. He was steadfast in his faith in Jesus and His healing power and grace. Terry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Becky Wheatley; sons Chris and Matt Wheatley (Allison); grandson Perrin Wheatley; brothers Larry (Linda), Wayne (Mary), Mike (Janet), and Steve (Julia) Wheatley; sisters Rita Gestring and Tammie Gist (Bill); brothers-in-law Larry Connolly (Karan), Bill Reece, Ralph Krasky, and Jerry Willis; sisters-in-law Frances Pitts (Larry), Paula Mills (Jim), Jane Will, Marie Wheatley, and Raina Thomas; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Terry is preceded in death by his parents Charles Leroy and Arlie Wheatley; brothers Don, Jerry, and Tony Wheatley; and sisters-in-law Naomi Campbell (Don), Zola Kinworthy (Harry), Nell Reece, Dixie Krasky, Peggy Willis, Dorothy Connolly; and brother-in-law Clint Connolly.
