Doris Stacey Green

Doris Stacey Green, 91, passed away on July 5, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by family. She was the definition of strength, resilience, and unconditional love. Though small in stature, she had a spirit larger than life. She was feisty, quick-witted, wonderfully stubborn, and never afraid to tell you exactly what she thought. If sass and attitude could generate electricity, she could have powered an entire nation. Her family wouldn’t have wanted her any other way. Her greatest joy in life was her family. Her three daughters were her whole world, and she loved them with everything she had. She was endlessly proud of Lisa Fortenberry (Hughston), Gail Van Gothem (Frank), and Stephanie Wilson (Kevin). They were her greatest blessings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Green, affectionately known as her “Little Old Fella.” They shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Together, they enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, especially evenings spent watching Wheel of Fortune, playing countless games of Rummy, and working crossword puzzles. To her grandchildren, Bree Guerin and Braeden Wilson, she was like a second mother, a safe place, and one of the greatest influences in their lives. She was incredibly proud of them and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. Doris was also preceded in death by her sister, Dean Stewart, and her brothers, Cecil Stacey, Clinton Stacey, Delmer Stacey, Leon Stacey, Lloyd Stacey, Marion Stacey, and Roy Stacey. Doris was never afraid of hard work and spent many years building her rock wall, tending to her flower beds, and making friends with the wildlife in her backyard. We find comfort in knowing she lived 91 years filled with love, laughter, and determination. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 10, at 3:00 p.m., with visitation from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. and burial following at Evans Cemetery. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Limestone County and Poss Home Care for their compassionate care and kindness during her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Limestone County.
