Michael "Mike" Johnson

April 7, 1962 - January 15, 2022

Family and friends are welcome to gather together to remember and celebrate Mike on Thursday, January 20th, 2022, from 4:00-8:00pm at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. A service and singing will start at 6:30pm. Michael “Mike” Johnson, 59 of Athens, passed away on Saturday, January 15th, 2022, at Athens Limestone Hospital. Mr. Johnson was born on April 7th, 1962, to Daniel Joseph and Shirley Crabtree Johnson. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 40 years, Debbie Reynolds Johnson; son Matthew Edward Johnson (Carrie) of Quitman, MS; grandchildren Tegan Sharp, Autumn Rivers, Marley Johnson, Lydia Rivers, Matilda Johnson, and Ezra Johnson; daughter Amy Elizabeth Fields (Justin) of Ardmore, TN; grandchildren Anna Fields, Skyyler Fields, and Bryson Fields; daughter Maria Ellen Smiley (Khristofer) of Elkmont; grandchild Quinton Smiley; father and mother Daniel and Shirley Johnson of Athens; brother Mark Johnson (LeAnne) of Athens; sister LuAnne Johnson of Athens; and mother-in-law Barbara M. Reynolds. Mr. Johnson was an engineer at Steelcase, musician with Trippin Dixie and Highway 72. He played drums, guitar, mandolin, ukulele and was lead singer. He was part of Big Life University and helped with the Arts Council/High Cotton Arts and Athens Limestone Tourism with Sprit of Athens. He preached all of his life after studying with Mark White at Oakland Church of Christ and was currently working with Craig’s Chapel Church of Christ in Lester Alabama. Mr. Johnson Loved people and wanted the best for everyone. He was encouraging, helpful, and available to those that asked or needed him.
