The funeral for Marvin Lester Whitt, 79, of Athens, will be Friday, December 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. John Ramey and Chaplain (Colonel) David Root officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service, and burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. Mr. Whitt, who died Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at his home, was born February 17, 1931, in Athens to Luther Whitt and Effie Baird Whitt. He was a brick mason for over fifty five years. Mr. Whitt was a member of Madison First Church of God, and was a veteran of the Korean War. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clyde Whitt, Gilbert Whitt and Floyd Whitt, and a granddaughter Whitney Wellden. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Margie Atkins Whitt; daughters, Linda Wellden and husband, Andy, Debbie Collins and husband, Dennis (Pete), Connie Landers and husband, David, Cathy Brett and husband, Dan; Six grandchildren, Callie Gooch, Lindsay Wellden, Evan Wellden, Carson Landers, Brock Brett and Courtney Collins; two great-grandsons, Collin Gooch and Whitt Gooch; four brothers, Houston Whitt, Glenn Whitt, Paul Whitt and Don Whitt. Pallbearers will be Evan Wellden, Carson Landers, Denny Thornton, Mike Thornton, Philip Thornton and Johnny Atkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Atkins, Eugene Thornton, Raymond Breeding, Jackie Carter and Malcolm Andrews. The family wishes to thank caregivers Janice Owens and Holly Roberts, as well as Hospice of the Valley staff, for their loving care.
