Harold K. Sweeney

Harold K. Sweeney, 80 of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022, at Athens Limestone Hospital. Mr. Sweeney was born on December 27th, 1941, to Riley and Francis Marberry Sweeney. Mr. Sweeney is survived by his wife, Nancy Dean Sweeney; daughters Melissa Thacker, Benita Sweeney, Samantha Sylvester, Sonya Dean, and Karla Lindsay (David); grandchildren Miranda, Jeremy, Mary Grace, Christopher, Samuel, Nicole, and Ethan; great-grandchildren Olivia and Evelyn; and brother John Sweeney. Preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Cecil Sweeney, Tommy Lee Sweeney, and Timothy Sweeney. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 5th, 2022, at Berea Baptist Church (16779 Lucas Ferry, Rd, Athens) at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be February 5th, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Mr. Sweeney loved singing and playing music. He enjoyed camping, loved to work on electronic gadgets, and when he was able, he enjoyed searching for ginseng. It thrilled him to pick at folks and make them laugh, and loved to tell them jokes. Mr. Sweeney was always ready to help anyone if they needed him.
