Charles David Page, Sr.

Service: Charles David Page, Sr. will be remembered at a service at Lindsay Lane Baptist Church on Saturday, September 18,2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother David Parker, Brother Dusty McLemore, Brother Keith Turberville, and Judge Mike Davis honoring his life. Mr. Page's body will lie in state from 9:00-11 :00 at the church. The family will be present at the church at this time. Burial will follow at the Tanner Methodist Church cemetery. A visitation is planned for Friday, September 17, 2010, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Charles David Page, Sr. was born on December 6, 1913, in Tanner, Alabama to David and Millie Peck Page. He passed from this life on September 7, 2010. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Martha Hancock Page, who passed away on May 31, 2008 at the age of 90. Mr. Page is also preceded in death by two brothers, John Page of Athens, and George Page of Plantation, Florida, and a sister, Nell Gregg of Decatur. Mr. Page spent his entire life on the family'S Springview Farm on Page Road in Tanner. It is here that he and "Miss Martha" reared their two children, Caroline Jane and Charles David, Jr. Charles Jr. is married to the former Kathy Montgomery. Together, they reared two daughters, Cara Lynn, who is married to Jamie Hammons and Emily Kathryn, married to Will Haney. Caroline, along with Charles and his family, built their lives there at the family farm. Now, Jamie and Cara, along with their daughter, Anna Page Hammons, call that farm home. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews: John Page, Athens; David Page, TN., Debbie Harris, TN., Jan Jones (Oliver) Killen; Rhonda Tutwiler (Carter) Decatur; Pat Seitz (Karl) Birmingham; and Buddy Gregg (Carol) Decatur, a number of great-nieces and nephews, and an innumerable host of friends. Charles Page, Sr. was an active member at the Tanner United Methodist church, where he shared his God-given talent of song. He loved to give of his time, volunteering with various community organizations, especially Limestone County DHR where Caroline is director. He was an active member of R.S.V.P., TRIAD and served as an appointed member of the Limestone County Industrial Board. Most of all, Charles loved to visit with people and share his genuine smiles and tender, uplifting words with anyone with whom he came in contact. Amazingly, at ninety-six (96) years of age, he never forgot a face. Mr. Page's life was spent farming dairy cattle and milking for Meadow Gold Dairies. Over his/their 38 years of selling milk to the company, he, along with Charles, Jr., won numerous awards from the company for their outstanding work. Mr. Page also loved gardening flowers, vegetables and berries. He could often be found tending to the peach and apple orchard that graced his property. Mr. Page loved his land and his farm, but he loved God first, and he found great comfort is studying and reading from the scriptures. He began each day by listening to the Jackson Drive church radio program, and it was he who always opened each family gathering with prayer. Mr. Page's family was a true blessing, source of pride and constant joy and comfort to him. Charles Page, Sr. was a pillar of the community of Tanner and Limestone County. He was a true meek, Southern gentleman, standing when a lady entered a room, offering his chair and removing his hat to say, "How do you do?". He and his wife graciously opened their doors to visitors and neighbors. A friend never left their home empty-handed. Anyone having the pleasure of meeting Charles "Mr. Charlie" Page can say they felt loved and inspired by his presence, and awed by his kind, gentle spirit. It is said of Mr. Page, "He always said a kind word to everyone and he never said an unkind word about anyone."
